Dr Martens 1461

FullSizeRender - Copy copy

When I put on a pair of shoes, it’s not just shoes; it is the expression of who I am ultimately as a person and a human being. That is why I spend more on Shoes than on clothes. Though I really don’t judge people, the shoes they put on make an ever-lasting impression on me! So, being the shoe maniac that I am, I just purchased my first pair of Dr Martens shoes. These are 1461 black smooth boots. Dr Marten is more than a brand, it’s a cult and you have to sip into it every moment to love brand like this. Classy? YES, Rebellious? YES. The brand itself speaks for the boots by just making them!! You have to be Rebelling to be wearing those boots!! I can pretty much relate my taste for fashion to the class that these boots provide!! These boots were pretty much everything I wanted for past couple of months. The infamous bouncing sole and yellow stitching are yet another feathers in the hat! I simply can’t wait to flaunt them at next fashion week.

Being a “type A” shoe Maniac that I am, here I bring to you my forever favorite shoes. Though , the shoes I am talking about here are from limited brands and I am not giving much of an options mostly because I have my choices defined and I would rarely go out of my way and despite this fact I love experimenting. I am forever in love with these Hightop Dr Martenes Jadon (1) and 1461 Antique Temprley (2) and I wish to have them both in my closet soon. I think Dr Martenes is more than a brand, It’s a cult! With very niche and unique customer base, they always stands upto the class. Giusseppe Zanotti is synonym of hightop for my conscious, sub-conscious and unconscious self!! I own a pair of hightop sneakers from the designer, I just can not get enough of these two pairs (3 & 4) of metal strapped hightops. Lastly, Jeremy Scott X Adidas Originals Mickey Hi (5) and Bones (6) has been catching up my attention for quit a while and I would surely miss a beat when I flaunt them soon (Though they are not available through official channels, I will manage to get them)

Lakmé Fashion Week winter/festive 2016

So after skipping three seasons of my favorite Indian fashion event –Lakmé Fashion Week , i decided its time I make myself at home! And I attended the Winter Festive 2016 held at Beautiful St Regis in Mumbai during 24th to 28th August! It is always pleasure to witness creative crowd and their creativity being unfold right in front of you. I really enjoyed every collection that I watched but I couldn’t help but love Gaurav Khanijo, Cord, Kallol Datta and Kriti Tula!

Talking about my look- I wore Indian by Manish Arora for KOOVS bomber jacker, tank top and drop crotch harem pants. I chose Guiseppe Zanotti hightop sneakers for my love for HipHop and a  cluch from Aliexpress.com . My look is well below 6000 INR excluding the Zanotti sneakers.

Bejewelled by Sengar

I am forever in love with this super chic bracelet that I received yesterday from designer and my friend Lalit Sengar. You know that thing when you see someone cute and he/she smiles and your heart kind of goes like warm butter sliding up the hot toast, that’s what it’s like when I see accessories. Only its better!  If there is love at first sight, this was it. I saw it on the ramp at Lalit Sengar Spring Summer 14 show during Lakme Fashion Week. Bollywood actor Purab Kohli walked the ramp wearing this utterly hip bracelet and I knew this was It!  This bracelet being one of most favourite accessories I spotted at Fashion Week, I was hopping freaking mad receiving this. And that doubled when Lalit told me that this is the original piece used during his show and worn by Purab. You can read more about his collection here or browse through his creations here.

In conversation with Jewelley Couturier Mrinalini Chandra

The one who designs whimsical jewellery also enjoys what she does. Her proven creativity was witnessed when she showcased her latest collection “Please Have a seat” at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2014.  In conversation with Chirag Parmar, the guy behind Style Cult,  Artisan Atelier and Couture Jewellery Designer Mrinalini Chandra talks about her love for jewellery, inspirations, role model  and above all shares some major fashion tips. here is how the interview went with Ms Chandra.

Q: Will you tell our readers about your back ground?

My first piece of jewellery was a Tessellated neckpiece I designed during NIFT for a Design Competition by the World Gold Council. I was awarded as one of the top twenty jewellery designers in the country. That was the turning point in my career. Then I got selected for my masters in Italy as amongst twenty students from the world  at 100 per cent scholarship followed by an internship at Montblanc Headquarters in Germany.

NIFT Delhi gave me the education and ambition to realise my passion of jewellery craft .My education at Milan gave me the exposure and experience that now makes my label what it is today in terms of aesthetics and approach. I am very grateful to my Education. It is that formulated my entire brand ideology. My brand stands for everything I believe in small things that bring cheer and joy to your day.

Q: When did you realise you want to become Fashion/Jewellery designer?

Like any other girl I have always had a deep association with Fashion Accessories but it was only my Mother and my best friend Mohit and  who made me realise that it was indeed my calling. The more I spent time learning about the delicate nature of jewellery, its profound relationship with the wearer drew me to further explore this particular art form.

Q: How do you define fashion?

Fashion is the way of expressing oneself. Fashion is what I wear, I eat, My conduct, my body language. It’s what I like- I live. It’s the way of living the way you like & I like to be. To me fashion is something Decent yet Chic yet Classy & graceful.

Q: How do you define your personal style?

A reverence for craft, an inherent love for colour. It is nearly impossible for me to comprehend darkness or anything sinister and you would never see such influences in my work. I worship detail and finesse and hope everyday that, that gets translated in my work.

Q: What matters to you most as a designer?

The journey. The process of making jewellery is extensive and full of learning. Falling in love with every concept and living it throughout the process, only brings out the best in every piece and that is what makes each & every piece of art different yet special & interesting.

Q: What do you like most about designing a piece of cloth/jewellery?

The experience of Evolution& Development. Evolution from sketch to the merchandise. It actually gives birth to new ideas & shows another side of the coin, which was unturned. Hence, I love the complete process.

Q: Do you see yourself as an artist?

Yes sometimes. While sketching, conceptualising. My perpetual state of mind is always of a design student.

Q: How do you select your models? Do you have any favourite models?

Depends on how well do they compliment the jewellery. My favourite models are Erica Packard & Nidhi Sunil.

Q: Do you have a role model in the Industry? Is there any designer or artist who inspires you most?

Anamika Khanna. She’s the Goddess of couture.

Q: How long does it take to construct a piece of jewellery/cloth?

From concept to realisation-Half a month, if its being made for the first time.

Q: Is there any (international) designer/model you would aspire to work with in future?

Designer would be Azzedine Alaia . Models are Kate Moss-for she is experimental & fun And Naomi Campbell for the dusky beauty she is.

Q: We love everything about your latest collection. Is there any particular piece you would like to talk about?

Kaleeras. It Happened after a lot of apprehension but turned out to be centre of attraction.

Q: Your favourite Fashion labels:

Shoes: Salvatore Ferragamo

Bags: Céline

Fragrance: Versace

Haute Couture: Alexander McQueen & Elsa Schiaparelli

Casual wear: flee market picks
